Care & Maintenance

Cleaning

The amount of cleaning your Composite Decking requires will depend heavily on the shade of colour you have chosen. Darker colours require less upkeep than lighter colours – like Mocha and Hampton Grey

.
Our Cleaning Chart outlines the recommended cleaning requirements of each colour.

NOTE: These are recommendations only and will vary depending on product use and weather exposure. Oil/grease spillages will require immediate cleaning.

Important Cleaning instructions

After installation you must thoroughly clean your composite deck to remove any leftover dust from the manufacturing process.

Ultradeck Composite decking materials can be cleaned by using  using a low pressure washer that is no greater than 1500 PSI and it should not be applied closer than 25cm from the decking surface. Use a normal fan nozzle and not a dirt blaster type nozzle.

  • Thoroughly wet deck.
  • Use hot water with dishwashing liquid and pour over your deck
  • Scrub in the direction of the grain with a stiff bristle broom to create a white slurry. Continue to work in sections until the whole deck is thoroughly scrubbed.
  • Continue to work in sections until the whole deck is thoroughly scrubbed.
  • Give the deck a good rinse down, ensuring all water runs off the deck. Where possible, Try not to let the water pool and mop any particularly wet areas with a clean mop, or alternatively, use a squeegee to push water off the end of the deck.

Upkeep

The wash down procedure is not only recommended at the time of installation, but on a regular basis thereafter.

The deep textured grooves can collect dirt and dust, which when not regularly washed out, can form water marks once dried. It is therefore vital that all water runs off your deck after a wash. The extent to which this is visible will depend on the choice of  colour – remember every installation is different and lighter colours like Hampton Grey and Mocha will need more upkeep than darker colours. Choose your colour carefully.

NOTE: The use of any cleaning product can and may affect the colour of your composite deck. Always test any cleaning product in an inconspicuous area of your deck before cleaning a large area.

Scratches and Scuffs

Over time and especially just after installation Composite decking  may scratch or scuff. This is normal as Ultradeck is a pre-finished product and will take some time to wear in to your surrounding environment and the way you use your deck. Scratches and scuff marks will show more on lighter colours than on darker colours. Seek appropriate surface protection for your furniture such as self-adhesive pads or protective tips if required.
Composite decking colour is consistent all the way through the boards so you can sand Ultradeck to treat major scratches and scuff marks. Use coarse grit sandpaper (60 grit or less) and lightly hand sand in the direction of the grain.
